The coast in climate change - from research to service

The DAS Basic Service "Climate and Water" and the BMDV Expert Network invite you to the
Coastal Workshop on 13.09. and 14.09.2022 at the BSH in Hamburg.
You can expect exciting presentations on the current state of knowledge around the topic of climate change on the coast as well as workshops for exchange between coastal stakeholders, the DAS Basic Service "Climate and Water" and the BMDV Expert Network.

Motivation and goal
Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, 23000 km² of sea lanes, about 600 km of dike line and habitat of more than 7 million people: The coastal areas of the North Sea and Baltic Sea.
Numerous stakeholders such as coastal conservationists and port operators work on and with the coast. Climate change poses challenges for all of them.
In order to meet them, knowledge about changes to the system due to climate change needs to be compiled. Possible impacts on the different fields of action have to be evaluated.
Since 2020, data provision and advice in the context of climate change adaptation in Germany has been provided by the DAS basic service "Climate and Water", which offers an operational climate service for the topics of climate and water. An important source of future climate services is provided by the research work of the BMDV expert network.
In order to be up to the future tasks, the interaction of all actors on the coast is indispensable. Therefore, it is important to determine where we currently stand, where the challenges lie, and how we can address them together to sustainably protect the coast. Which studies, data and applications from research and service can contribute to this?

The aim of the event is to identify open questions and to discuss approaches to solutions together.
The focus will be on the following topics, among others:

- Presentation of DAS-Basisdienst and BMDV Expert Network
- Classification of the results of the latest IPCC report
- Maritime meteorology
- Oceanographic data
- Regional sea level changes in North Sea and Baltic Sea
- Wadden Sea and estuaries
- Storm surges, coastal protection and sea state
- Drainage

The exact program will be announced soon.
