New study shows risks of climate change in Germany

If climate change continues unchecked, the risks from heat, drought and heavy rainfall throughout Germany will increase sharply in the future. This is shown by the results of the Federal Climate Impact and Risk Assessment (KWRA), which was presented by the Federal Environment Ministry and the Federal Environment Agency.

Documentation: National Dialog „Consequences of Climate Change in Germany – Ready to act for a better provision“

The dialog focussed on best practice examples for provision and adaption to the consequences of climate change by the State, the federate states, the municipalities and non-governmental actors and presented selected results from the Monitoring Report 2019 concerning the German Adaption Strategy.

Evaluation of the German Adaptation Strategy

The Evaluation of the German Adaptation Strategy to Climate Change (DAS) (German) analyses the development and impact of the DAS. The insights gained and the recommendations derived from them have now been published in the first evaluation report. The evaluation focuses on the period since the publication of the progress report on the DAS in 2015.

New monitoring report on climate change impacts and adaptation has been published

The second monitoring report by the Federal Government illustrates the far-reaching impact of climate change in Germany and describes the current level of adaption to climate change.

Blauer Kompass contest goes into next round

Greening the office roof, unsealing the schoolyard, farming crops which are adapted to climate change, flood management measures, etc. This is the fourth time the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) is acknowledging local and regional projects which make a real contribution to coping with the effects of climate change in Germany.

European Climate Change Adaptation Conference

For the fourth time already experts from the fields of climate adaption and disaster preparedness will meet at the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA). This year it will take place from May 28th to 31st in Lisbon.

4th Meeting of the KlimAdapt Provider-User-Network

From June 13th to 14th, 27 provider of climate adaption services (CAS) used the chance to exchange about how to integrate users more into the development of CASs in the Generaldirektion Wasserstraßen und Schifffahrt (GDWS) in Hannover. In two days four climate adaption services and their user integration were introduced and discussed in working groups.

Heat prevention in urban areas

From March 21st to 22nd, providers and and users of climate adaption services discussed different support offers regarding heat prevention in urban areas in the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) in Bonn. The event took place on behalf of the KlimAdapt network activities of the Federal Environmental Agency to further develop the German Climate Preparedness Portal.

New Climate Scenarios for Switzerland and NCCS-Web Platform

November 18th, the National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS) and the ETH-Center für Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM) presented at the ETH Zurich the results of the new Suisse Climate Scenarios CH2018 as well as the new NCCS-web platform (www.nccs.ch). 670 Participants from administration, politics, science, economy and populace took part in the interactive event that allowed an dialogue between users and producers of climate services.

During the 1. National Conference „Climate adaptation services – Climate preparedness in the Field“ on the 12th of November 2018 in the Federal Environment Agency in Dessau-Roßlau offers and services concerning climate change adaption were discussed and looked at from various angles. In technical lectures, improvised theatrical mise-en-scènes, a marketplace for climate adaption services and deepening workshops about 135 participants pursued relevant questions.

At the website warning.bund.de, which is provided by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BKK), German citizens can find all current warnings such as weather alerts, flood warning and warnings about dangers and damage situations in Germany, such as hazardous substance spreads or major fires.
